Formation of Chhattisgarh



1861 - On 2nd November 1861 Central Provinces and Berar were set up in which the areas of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra were included. Their capital was Nagpur and the official districts were Bilaspur, Raipur, and Sambalpur.

1862 - During this period 5 divisions were made in the Central Provinces and Berar. One of these divisions was Chhattisgarh whose capital was Raipur. Its first Commissioner was Charles C. Eliott.

1905 - A very important change that took place this year was the division of Bengal in two parts. This division led to the transfer of Sambalpur district in Bengal, and from Bengal, five Princely States were included in Chhattisgarh which is - Koriya, Sarguja, Jashpur, Udaipur, and Changbhakar. This transferring and inclusion of various parts from Bengal led to the modern-day map of Chhattisgarh State. Hence the present-day map of Chhattisgarh was prepared in the year 1905.

1918 - Pandit Sunderlal Sharma drew and prepared the exact map of Chhattisgarh in his manuscript. Hence, he is also known as the first man for seeing the dream of present Chhattisgarh State come into existence.

1924 - In Raipur District Council the first time the demand for Chhattisgarh State took place.

1939 - During the Tripuri session Pandit Sunderlal Sharma demanded Chhattisgarh State.

1946 - Thakur Pyarelal Singh demanded the separate Chhattisgarh State for which he organized "Chhattisgarh Soshan Virodhi Manch". This organization was the first for the demand of Chhattisgarh State.

1947 - Chhattisgarh was the part of Central Province and Berar during this time.

1955- Raipur MLA Thakur Ramkrishna Singh demanded a separate Chhattisgarh State in the Central Provinces Assembly for the first time, which was the first legislative demand.

1956 - On 1st November 1956 Chhattisgarh was included in the Madhya Pradesh State since the formation of a new state took place.

1956 - For the separate demand of State, Dr. Khubchand Baghel organized "Chhattisgarh Mahasabha" in Rajnandgaon whose Secretary was Dashrath Choubey.

1967 - Barrister Chhedilal and Dr. Khubchand Baghel organized a committee called "Chhattisgarh Bhatritva Sangh" (Chhattisgarh Brotherhood Association) in Rajnandgaon whose Vice-President was Dwarika Prasad Tiwari.

1976 - Shankar Guha Niyogi formed "Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha".

1983 - Shankar Guha Niyogi formed "Chhattisgarh Sangram Manch".

1994 - MLA Gopal Parmar passed a non-official oath in the assembly for the formation of separate Chhattisgarh State.

1998 - Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed an official note for the formation of Chhattisgarh State.

2000 -  Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh on 1 November 2000.  by partitioning ten Chhattisgarhi and six Gondi-speaking southeastern districts (total 16) of Madhya Pradesh. Chhattisgarh became the 26th State of India

Note- No constitution was amended to create Chattisgarh state.it was create by Madhya Pradesh reorganization act, 2000
